Smart Home Description

Over the past century home technology has gone through a variety of changes. The first stages of automation begin with household appliances. From the washing machine and dryer in the 1940’s to the home security system that became popular in the late 1980’s. As time has progressed and peoples lives have became more complex, a need has risen to make like at home as easy and most enjoyable as possible. The Jetson cartoon gave society a good look of a high tech fully automated home from an animated perspective. Needless to say an automated home is a reality of today with an expected revenue stream of more than $1.5 billion by the year 2000.

What is a "Smart Home"? A smart home is anything and everything a person wants automated in their home. For some, it could be as simple as automatic time control of selected lights. For others, intelligent features could be priority but the most advanced smart home is a fully automated/integrated home that has endless capabilities. The possibilities can be unlimited. This home includes technology that allows devices and systems to have automatic functions, which can be controlled by a mobile user. A home can be a smart home whether it is already established or under construction. Although a smart home can be created with an existing home or a home under construction there are different types of methodology to make a "smart home". Smart homes save energy and help the environment through intelligent control of lighting, heating and cooling. A smart home can protect families from the increasingly violent and crime ridden society through sophisticated security and surveillance systems. Home theater systems allow the homeowner to enjoy music and video from anywhere in the home. As a result of the "smart home" the elderly and disabled can have control of the home from their fingertips.
