A home local area network (LAN) supports multiple personal computers, printers and data sources. A smart home personal computer gives the user the convenience of quickly plugging in a portable PC to an outlet in a room and printing it from the house printer. The PC can interface with home control systems, which manage lighting, appliances, and security. With the wiring packages that are required with some of the automated PC systems, support is provided for multiple phone, fax, and modem lines. The user can receive faxes, surf the web and talk on the telephone all at the same time and connected to only one network port. The personal computer is also allowed to interface with high bandwidth applications such as home banking, video conferencing, video on demand and digital and satellite TV.
